The Two DuPont Reinventions: The Emergent Approach to Strategy
In 1998, as E.I. DuPont neared its 200th anniversary, the company launched an effort to reinvent itself for the third time. New leadership recognized the urgent need for a new corporate focus and strategy. High-profile consultants were engaged. Despite its promise, however, the company was ultimately broken up.
In this talk, I offer an insider’s view on what worked, where the company struggled—both culturally and methodologically—and how these challenges shaped his thinking in the development of the Emergent Approach to Strategy.
